Another weekend in the Sports Direct Premiership produced yet another set of notable results, eye catching goals and standout performances.

Cliftonville moved into pole position with a thumping four-goal defeat of Carrick Rangers at Solitude, the crunch game at Coleraine ended in deadlock while both Loughgall and Newry City recorded crucial wins on the road.

Jim Magilton’s Reds not only clocked up their third win on the bounce but, for the third game in a row, led by three goals at the break!

Ben Wilson opened the scoring as early as the sixth minute after tapping home from close range from Rory Hale’s cross into the box.

Ronan Doherty added a second midway through the first half from the spot, before Wilson doubled his tally just before the break.

Hale then completed the scoring just after the hour with a lob over keeper Ross Glendinning.

Coleraine and Larne met at the Showgrounds but neither side could find a way through despite plenty of chances throughout.

Newly promoted Loughgall continued their good start to the season with a 2-1 win away to Dungannon Swifts.

Nathaniel Ferris opened the scoring for the visitors with just over a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock with a fine finish into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box.

That was how it stayed until midway through the second half when loan signing Jay Boyd doubled Loughgall’s lead with a controlled finish beyond Declan Dunne, and whilst the Swifts pulled one back soon after through James Convie they couldn’t find a way to bag a late equaliser.

And it was also a good day for Newry City as Gary Boyle’s side recorded a 3-1 win over Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

Lorcan Forde kicked the scoring off on 35 minutes with a finish past Rory Brown into the bottom left, with Adam Salley adding a second not long after the interval.

Peter Campbell pulled one back for the Lurgan Blues with just under a quarter-of-an-hour to go with a header from a corner but, with five minutes left, substitute Brian Healy knocked home Newry’s third with a side foot finish.

Meanwhile, on Friday evening, a Chris McKee goal seven minutes from time was enough for Linfield to get past Ballymena United at The Showgrounds.

The Glentoran-Crusaders game was called off following a morning pitch inspection at the BetMcLean Oval.
