Another big Friday night of Danske Bank Premiership action produced victories for Larne and Glentoran under the lights while the north Belfast derby at Solitude finished scoreless.

Larne are the new leaders after a two-goal defeat of Newry City at The Showgrounds.

Scoreless at the break, Tiernan Lynch’s side earned the points courtesy of a couple of goals either side of the hour mark.

Leroy Millar opened the scoring on 59 minutes after connecting with a low driven cross at the near post before, just three minutes after that, substitute Mark Randall powered a header past Steven Maguire from Fuad Sule’s right-sided cross.

Glentoran were in fine goalscoring form with a 5-0 thumping of Carrick Rangers at the BetMcLean Oval to move back into second spot.

Four goals to the good at the break, Aidan Wilson kicked the scoring off on 19 minutes with a header into the bottom corner, followed five minutes later by Jay Donnelly’s clinical finish from Bobby Burns’ pass.

Shay McCartan added a third not long after that before, in first half stoppage time, Conor McMenamin knocked home number four from an acute angle. Patrick McClean then wrapped it all up with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining with a header from Hrvoje Plum’s free-kick.

Meanwhile, at Solitude, neither Cliftonville nor Crusaders could find the net in the streamed derby game.

Both sides did come close on occasion, though, with Jordan Forsythe being denied by the woodwork while Joe Gormley couldn’t make the most of a late opportunity.

The action continues tomorrow with a big game on the Ballycastle Road as Coleraine host Linfield while Ballymena United and Portadown will be looking to kick start their disappointing campaigns with victory at the Showgrounds and Glenavon welcome Dungannon Swifts to Mourneview Park. All three games kick-off at 3pm.
