Portadown have announced the appointment of Niall Currie as the club's new manager.

Currie makes the switch to Shamrock Park from Championship side Dundela, and brings with him his backroom staff at Wilgar Park, Clifford Adams and John McAllister.

The 50-year-old Portadown native replaces Paul Doolin who parted ways with the Premiership strugglers earlier this week following a disappointing start to the season which has produced just one point from the opening 11 games.

It is Currie's second stint at Portadown, having previously managed the club from 2016 to 2018. His managerial career has also brought spells at Carrick Rangers, Ards, Loughgall and Annagh United.

In a statement on the official club website Currie said: "I’m delighted to be back at the club, leaving Dundela was a massively hard thing to do with we’re we have the club now, but for me, it unfinished with my hometown club and I will do everything I can to keep this club in the Premier League."
