Northern Ireland’s squad for this summer’s Euro 2022 includes 13 Danske Bank Women’s Premiership stars.
Kenny Shiels announced his 23-player squad on Monday with six Cliftonville Ladies players selected, four stars from Glentoran Women, two from Crusaders Strikers and Linfield Ladies defender Ashley Hutton.
Northern Ireland captain Marissa Callaghan of Cliftonville Ladies is included despite recent injury concerns, and is joined by Reds teammates Abbie Magee, Kelsie Burrows, Louise McDaniel, Kirsty McGuinness and Caitlin McGuinness.
Glentoran Women’s midfield trio Chloe McCarron, Nadene Caldwell and Joely Andrews are also involved, alongside the Glens forward Lauren Wade.
Crusaders Strikers are represented by experienced defender Julie Nelson and striker Emily Wilson, with Hutton of Linfield Ladies completing the local-based representation.
Cliftonville's Toni-Leigh Finnegan has missed out on the final squad despite recent international recognition, while Reds teammate Danielle Maxwell misses out through injury.
Maxwell is joined on the absentee list by Glentoran winger Caragh Hamilton and Linfield's Vicky Carleton – who are also cruelly missing through injuries.
Glentoran Women midfielder Sam Kelly had been training with the recent squads but is among the players not to be included in the final selection, along with Crusaders Strikers duo Rachel McLaren and Maddy Harvey-Clifford, Mid Ulster Ladies goalkeeper Lilie Woods and Sion Swifts Ladies striker Cora Chambers.
Former Danske Bank Women’s Premiership stars Jackie Burns, Rebecca McKenna and Demi Vance are all included in the squad.
