Linfield's Champions League campaign continues this evening with the visit of Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt to Windsor Park, kick-off 7:45pm.
The Blues set up this second qualifying round tie following victory over The New Saints in the last round. Trailing by a goal from the first leg David Healy's side levelled deep into stoppage time in the return before Ethan Devine struck what proved to be the winner in the 94th minute.
Glimt reached this phase of the competition after getting past Faroese opposition KI Klaksvík. Nigerian striker Victor Boniface struck a hat-trick in the 3-0 first leg home win but they were made battle a week later, going down 3-1 with only a Boniface spot-kick just before the hour giving them the edge.
Managed by Kjetil Knutsen, Glimt are in the midst of their domestic season and currently sit fourth in the Eliteserien eight points off the pace, albeit with a game in hand. They go into tonight's game on the back of a 2-0 away win over HamKam courtesy of a late double from Amahl Pellegrino.
Founded in 1916, Glimt have enjoyed some European success in recent seasons. They made their return in 2020/21 following a 16-year gap and got past Lithuanian sides Kauno Zalgiris and Zalgiris before exiting by the odd goal in five to AC Milan in the Europa League.
Then, a year ago, they made it all the way to the Conference League quarter-finals only to lose to AS Roma during a run which saw them record back-to-back victories over Celtic.
The return leg is scheduled for next Wednesday evening (27th July, kick-off 5pm), in the 8000 capacity Aspmyra Stadion. The aggregate winners of the tie will face either Zalgiris Vilnius or Malmo in the third qualifying round, while the losers will drop into the equivalent round of the Europa League to take on one of Qarabag or FC Zurich.
