PLENTY OF GOALS ON A BUSY NIGHT

02 Nov 2021

It turned out to be quite an evening of NI Football League action in the five games played across three different competitions.

Limavady United grabbed all the headlines with a memorable 3-2 defeat of Dungannon Swifts in the BetMcLean League Cup. The Roesiders knocked out their senior opponents at The Showgrounds thanks to goals from Ryan Doherty, Dean Brown and Alex Pomeroy to set up a quarter-final clash with Warrenpoint Town next Tuesday.

Linfield also made it through to the last eight with a very comprehensive victory over PSNI at Windsor Park. Billy Chadwick claimed the match ball with a hat-trick but the scoring was opened by 16-year-old Callum Marshall. Michael Newberry also twice found the net, with other goals coming from Jamie Mulgrew, Andrew Clarke, Jordan Stewart, Ahmed Salam and Christy Manzinga.

In the Danske Bank Premiership leaders Cliftonville hit four goals without reply past Portadown. Joe Gormley hit two - and almost bagged a hat-trick - with Ryan Curran converting from the spot after the break while Larne and Glentoran battled to a share of the spoils at Inver Park. John Herron handed Larne the advantage not long after the interval but Jay Donnelly levelled midway through the second half.

Meanwhile, Ballinamallard United had a Josh McIlwaine brace plus strikes from BJ Banda and Jason McCartney to thank for their Lough 41 Championship victory over Institute at Ferney Park.
