Linfield moved five points clear at the top of the table with a comprehensive defeat of Warrenpoint Town at Windsor Park on a night that also brought victories for Ballymena United, Crusaders and Glenavon.

The Blues hit five without reply past 'Point with each goal coming from a different player. Jordan Stewart opened the scoring midway through the first half with Shayne Lavery following with a second a few minutes later.

Joel Cooper added a third just before the break, and then a Jimmy Callacher finish early in the second half. Andrew Waterworth made it five with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

The Crues moved back into third after coming from behind to beat Carrick Rangers at the Loughshore Hotel Arena.

The game got off to blistering start when Daniel Kelly opened the scoring for the 'Gers after ten minutes but the visitors responded almost immediately through Jamie McGonigle.

But two goals early in the second half put the Crues in the driving seat. Chris Hegarty met a McGonigle header to edge Stephen Baxter's side in front on 48 minutes before Michael Ruddy made sure of the points just before the hour.

Ballymena United brought Glentoran's recent winning streak to a shuddering halt at The Oval.

The Sky Blues moved in front in somewhat fortuitous circumstances after 36 minutes when Tony Kane's wind assisted corner from the left bypassed everyone before ending up in the net.

Then, just after the hour, former Glenman Ross Redman doubled Ballymena's lead from close range after another Kane corner was flicked on.

Meanwhile, at Shamrock Park, Glenavon gained revenge on Portadown following their heavy defeat to their Mid-Ulster neighbours at the same venue on Saturday.

Leading at the break through Andy Hall's 34th minute strike through a crowded box, it took less than a minute into the second half for Gareth McCaffrey to double their lead. Chris Lavery pulled one back around 20 minutes after that but Glenavon held on to secure the win.
