Portadown boss Matt Tipton has added to his goalkeeping option by bringing 25-year-old shot-stopper Harry Doherty to Shamrock Park.
A native of Buncrana, Doherty kicked off his career at Cockhill Celtic before moving across to England to turn out for Brighton & Hove Albion and Charlton Athletic at various age levels. He was also capped by the Republic of Ireland U17 and U19 sides.
A return home brought a switch to Finn Harps before dipping his toes in the Irish League with Carrick Rangers and then Crusaders, including appearing in the 2019 Irish Cup final victory over Ballinamallard United. He returned to Carrick before leaving at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
Tipton had this to say regarding his newest addition: "Really pleased to get the signing of Harry over the line. He’s a goalkeeper I’ve admired over the last few years and after him taking a year out I’m delighted that he’s chosen us to continue his career again. I feel he can bring us a good presence and a desire to push us on."
