Carrick Rangers have announced the appointment of Stuart King as their new manager.

King has spent the last five seasons in charge of Banbridge Town, whom he guided to the Bob Radcliffe Cup during the 2018/19 campaign. He arrives to replace Niall Currie who resigned from the post in May.

As a player King picked up extensive playing experience and honours with Linfield, Ballymena United, Glenavon and Larne amongst others. He also was on the books of Preston North End, Ross County, Queen of the South and Southend United earlier in his career.

Looking forward to getting start, King said: "First of all I would like to thank Banbridge Town and the Chairman there for everything they have done, I am sad to leave but I can't turn down an opportunity like this.

"In terms of my development and where I want to go, Carrick Rangers is a perfect match; it's a fantastic opportunity for me to put my stamp on a Premiership club."

Rangers chairman Peter Clarke was pleased to get his man, telling the official club website: "The club is delighted that Stuart has agreed to become our new manager and we are extremely impressed with his vision for Carrick Rangers.

"Stuart's enthusiasm and passion to improve and succeed at this level very much reflects that of the Board of Directors and everyone associated with the club and that is why we are so pleased that he is joining us to continue our development as a Premiership side."

King's former club, Banbridge Town, also paid a glowing tribute to him. Chairman Dominic Downey said, "Whilst disappointed to lose Stuart I understand and respect his decision as he has always been open and honest with the board about his ambitions within football.

"Having turned down other offers over the last five years he felt this was an opportunity he could not refuse. I want to thank Stuart for all his work with the club, we wish him and his family every success for the future."
