Glentoran Women showed their title credentials in their win over Crusaders Strikers on Wednesday night, explained goalkeeper Jackie Burns.
The Glens had lost their previous match two weeks ago as they went down to a late defeat at Sion Swifts, where they lost 4-3 having led 3-1 in the closing stages.
That had been their first league defeat of the campaign and Burns - who lined up for Northern Ireland in last week’s win in the Faroe Islands - was impressed on how the side bounced back against the Crues.
“We all knew how strong a team Crusaders are and that game was always going to be a battle,” Burns said after the match.
“It was a very different game to the one we had against Sion which was very open and end-to-end, this one was a lot more about patience.
“We needed to bounce back from that defeat and show the fight we have in our team and I think we did that, it showed what we are about.
“A clean sheet was very important - it’s great as a goalkeeper but the team are the reason for it - they kept the ball away from the goal and we all know that is what will win you league titles.”
