A Robbie McDaid goal fired Glentoran to victory over HB Torshavn in their UEFA Europa League Preliminary Round tie at The Oval.
McDaid, who also bagged the winner in the Irish Cup final last month, struck on 42 minutes with an excellent first time finish volleyed low into the net after Rory Donnelly had found him with a ball over the top.
It was the only real chance of an otherwise uneventful first half, but the second period almost got off to a much brighter start when HB substitute Adrian Justinussen was thwarted when debutant Glentoran keeper Dayle Coleing did well to turn his 25-yard free-kick away to the left.
Another of Glentoran's new arrivals, Gael Bigirimana almost created a second for Mick McDermott's side when his corner caused panic in the visiting box before the danger was cleared.
And Bigirimana made his mark at the other end later in the game with a goalline clearance to deny Hilmar Jakobsen after his effort had caught Coleing out.
But Glentoran stayed on top to see the game out and book a First Qualifying Round trip to face Motherwell at Fir Park on August 27th.
