Glentoran are back in Europe on Thursday night when they welcome Faroese opponents HB to The Oval.

The Europa League Preliminary Round tie is their reward for winning the Irish Cup at the end of last month, and marks their return to the continental stage five years after losing to Slovakian side Zilina at the same stage of the competition during the 2015-16 season.

The Glens have never faced a side from the Faroe Islands before but HB (Havnar Bóltfelag) are no strangers to these shores, having visited as recently as last season when they lost 1-0 to Linfield at Windsor Park on their way to a 3-2 aggregate defeat.

Crowned league champions 23-times, HB are currently in the middle of their season five points clear at the top of the Meistaradeildin having suffered just one defeat in their 17 games so far. They go into Thursday's game on the back of a nine game winning streak, including an 11-0 win over AB last week.

Two players grabbed a hat-trick in that game, including Danish striker Mikkel Dahl who has now bagged seven goals in his five appearances since joining HB towards the end of July.

Of course, Glentoran have indulged in some significant transfer activity themselves over the past few weeks, bringing in international experience with the likes of Gael Bigirimana, Dayle Coleing and Luke McCullough, amongst others, all eager to make an impression in their first competitive outing for the club.

Kicking off at 7pm, Thursday's game will be played to a finish behind closed doors, as per UEFA regulations, but it will be streamed live via the BBC Sport NI website.

The winners are away to Motherwell in the First Qualifying Round next Thursday evening.
