Newry City forward Adam Foley has been named Championship Player of the Month for October by NIFWA.
Foley scored five goals in the month including a sensational hat-trick against Ards in a 5-1 victory. He also found the net in Newry's memorable 3-2 League Cup win over Glenavon and their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Ballinamallard United.
The former Glenavon and Portadown man said, "I'd like to thank the Football Writers' for this award, it's not something I was expecting.
"We made a slow start to the season in August and September, but October proved to be a really good month for us. Darren Mullen changed the formation around to allow us to attack more and since then things have clicked.
"We still want to win the league, that's our aim. In this division, if you put two or three wins together then you shoot up the table."
Not only did Foley score five goals he also provided three assists as Newry climbed up the Bluefin Sport Championship table. On Friday night, they face league leaders Portadown.
Foley said, "Portadown is an important game for us. We have a great squad with a good mix of boys from Newry and lads like myself from the other side of the border. We are capable of giving any team a tough game."
