Sion Swifts Ladies goalkeeper Nicole McClure made her World Cup debut on Tuesday night but was unable to stop Jamaica from falling to defeat against Australia.

McClure made history by becoming the first player from the Danske Bank Women's Premiership to feature in the finals of the FIFA Women's World Cup.

While the Reggae Girlz fell to defeat and are now out of the tournament, they soaked up the adulation of their fans and there was a special moment as Havana Solaun scored their first ever World Cup goal.

McClure started the game ahead of Sydney Schneider but Jamaica - who had conceded eight goals across their opening two games against Brazil and Italy respectively - were always going to be firm underdogs for this clash.

Sam Kerr, top scorer in the United States league in 2017 and 2018 and is also currently the top scorer in the NWSL this season and the joint-top scorer at the Women's World Cup, netted a hat-trick for Australia in their 4-1 victory.

Italy, Australia and Brazil all ended the group with six points each while for rank outsiders Jamaica, they go home with no points but plenty of memories.
