Cliftonville inflicted heartache upon Carrick Rangers at Solitude with a late winner in this BetMcLean League Cup third round clash.
The Reds moved in front as early as the 13th minute when Levi Ives collected the ball some 25 yards from goal and proceeded to send a curling effort into the top corner leaving Aaron Hogg rooted to the spot.
Carrick responded well and, indeed, came close to levelling on a number of occasions. Cliftonville keeper Brian Neeson did well to save one-on-one with Stewart Nixon before, just after the half-hour mark he produced another good stop to thwart a Daniel Kelly header from Reece Neale's corner.
Cliftonville doubled their advantage moments from the break. Ryan Curran was brought down inside the box by Christopher Rodgers and, from the spot-kick that followed, Joe Gormley made no mistake to send Hogg the wrong way.
Rangers continued to battle hard in the second half and duly got their reward on 77 minutes when Kelly got his head to Lee Chapman's cross.
Then, with three minutes left, Lloyd Anderson levelled for the Championship side with a sweeping finish after Nixon's cross into the area wasn't cleared.
But, moments later, their joy turned to despair when Gormley popped up to restore Cliftonville's lead with a lobbed effort following a miscommunication in defence to book a last eight place for Barry Gray's side.
