Dungannon Swifts kicked off their defence of the BetMcLean League Cup with an extra-time victory over Limavady United at Stangmore Park.
Rodney McAree's side created the best chances in a scoreless first half with Paul McElroy perhaps coming closest with a a 25-yard which produced a great stop from visiting keeper Paul Wells.
The deadlock was broken just before the hour. Jarlath O'Rourke combined well with McElroy outside the box before McElroy's deflected effort went past Wells thanks to a deflection off Gary McFadden.
But the Roesiders levelled with nine minutes remaining after Ryan Doherty turned the ball past Stuart Addis after his initial effort had been parried.
Mark Patton might have restored Dungannon's lead soon after when his ball from the left was sliced onto the crossbar by a defender while Alan Teggart also came close but was thwarted by another save from Wells.
And so into extra-time. Substitute Marcio Soares thought he had edged the Swifts in front but could only turn the ball straight against an upright.
However, Dungannon's winner came soon after after a Patton cross from the left was turned into his own net by Emmet Friars to book a place in the last 16 for the holders.
