Holders Dungannon Swifts continued their BetMcLean League Cup defence thanks to a late extra-time winner against Warrenpoint Town at the Q Radio Arena.

The first half was scoreless until the closing moments when Jarlath O'Rourke edged the Swifts in front after his own corner from the left was knocked back across the face of goal for him to knock home following some confusion in the home defence.

But, almost straightaway from the restart, Philip Donnelly tapped the ball over the line at the other end when no-one else reacted to a delivery into the box.

Dungannon regained the lead with ten minutes remaining into fortunate circumstances after Kris Lowe sent a driven ball into the box and, in his attempt to clear it, Anto Reilly only succeeded in turning it past his own keeper.

Remarkably, on 88 minutes, Donnelly struck again for 'Point to force extra-time when, out of the blue, he powered a left-foot effort from outside the area into the opposite corner.

Douglas Wilson came within inches of putting Dungannon back in front early into extra-time with a 20-yard drive which cannoned back off the crossbar.

However, with penalties looming large, Seanan Cluclas popped up to secure a last eight place for the Swifts with a near post finish past Aaron McCarey.
