A Mark Edgar goal midway through the second half gave Carrick Rangers victory over Glentoran at The Oval.
The 20-year-old knocked home what proved to be the only goal of the game on 66 minutes with a well executed free-kick from just outside the area into the top corner beyond the reach of 'keeper Dwayne Nelson.
The game got off to a quiet start. Carrick crafted an early half chance when Ben Roy won possession to tee up Andrew Mooney while it took Glentoran almost half-an-hour to test Harry Doherty when he was called into action to parry away a Curtis Allen effort.
A short time later Edgar saw a header palmed away for a corner with a Mark Clarke effort from the resultant Roy corner went over.
Glentoran looked a better side after the break with Steven Gordon being denied by Doherty early in proceedings while, after falling behind, Gary Haveron's side might have levelled when Tiarnan McNicholl produced a superb save from Doherty.
