Chris Lavery shields the ball from Renato (Picture: Matt Mackey/

No goals at The Oval in game which saw both sides connect with the woodwork.

The visitors might have snatched the lead after just three minutes when Renato played the ball for James Gray who, in turn, laid it off for Greg Moorhouse to fire against the underside of the bar.

Curtis Allen had Glentoran's best chances in the scoreless first half. He struck the woodwork after flicking a Chris Lavery delivery onto the crossbar while another header, again from a Lavery ball was saved by Johnny Tuffey.

Then, a few minutes from the break, Lavery got in on the act himself with a half volley that fizzed just past the bottom corner.

Glenavon enjoyed a flurry of chances early in the second half. Mark Sykes saw an effort saved, Renato had one blocked and another go just past the target while Elliott Morris kept them at bay again to deny Moorhouse.

With just under a quarter-of-an-hour remaining Morris did well again to tip a Martyn close range header over while his opposite number, Tuffey, faced down Stephen Gordon one-on-one.

Sykes might have sealed the points for Glenavon right at the end after he lifted the ball above Morris only for his effort to come back off the crossbar.
