UNITED KEEP PRESSURE ON WITH MOURNEVIEW WIN

Two first half goals helped Ballymena United to victory over Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

The Sky Blues started brightly, and almost moved in front inside the opening ten minutes only for Caolan Marron to head a Cathair Friel effort off the line.

But United did go in through on 13 minutes through Adam Lecky after he was presented with the simplest of close range tap-ins after an initial Andrew McGrory shot was spilled by keeper Johnny Tuffey.

And the visitors doubled their advantage on 34 minutes when Lecky played Jude Winchester through to beat Tuffey one-on-one.

Glenavon might have pulled a goal back just before the break only for Josh Daniels' header to rebound back off an upright after Andy Hall had delivered a corner.

After the break Stephen Donnelly did well to send over a low cross from the byline for Conor McCloskey but the United defence managed to bundle the ball away.

At the other end moments later a run by Friel was narrowly snuffed out at the near post when Rhys Marshall cleared the danger.

Kofi Balmer then might have added United's third only to turn the ball against the bottom of the post while, later in the game, James Knowles and Jonathan McMurray had further chances.
