Glenavon's Mark Sykes has been called up into the Northern Ireland Under-21 squad (c)Stephen Hamilton/Presseye


Glenavon midfielder Mark Sykes has become the latest Danske Bank Premiership player called up to the Northern Ireland Under-21 squad. 

The Northern Ireland Under-21's face Jersey away in a friendly on Wednesday 4 October ahead of their European Under-21 Qualifier against Estonia on Tuesday 10 October to be played at Mourneview Park.

He will join up with Ian Baraclough's team alongside Coleraine duo Jamie McGonigle and Ciaron Harkin who have also been included in the squad.

Sykes' Glenavon team-mate Bobby Burns will also take his place in the Northern Ireland Under-19 squad as reward for a fine start to the season, with a trio of games against their counterparts from Belarus, Germany and Poland.

There are a host of NI Football League players in Stephen Frail's Under-19 squad including; Niall Owens (Ballinamallard United), Ryan Strain (Linfield), Conor Larkin (Armagh City), Declan Dunne (Cliftonville), Cormac Lawlor (Cliftonville), Liam McKenna (Warrenpoint Town), Chris Craine (Cliftonville) and Leo Brown (Crusaders).
