TEN MAN ARDS EARN MUCH NEEDED POINT

Ards picked up a crucial point from this visit to face Glentoran at The Oval despite playing the second half with ten men.

The Glens created all the early running with Robbie McDaid sending a header just wide after ten minutes while, a quarter-of-an-hour later, Darren Murray got past several defenders before sending the ball wide of the far post.

Curtis Allen then came even closer when he smashed an effort off the crossbar after receiving the ball from Murray.

However, against the run of play, Ards moved in front on 41 minutes through Michael McLellan with a close range finish from Craig McClean's cross.

Their joy was short-lived, though, when Kym Nelson was shown a straight red card on the stroke of half-time following an altercation with Murray.

Chasing the equaliser, Glentoran pressed after the break but were restricted to half chances until the 70th minute when Murray was on hand to connect with Allen's header from a Jamie Glover free-kick to touch it over the line.

Chris Gallagher might have edged Glentoran into the lead a few minutes after that by Sam Johnston produced an excellent stop to keep the ball out while, in the dying moments, Willie Garrett nodded against the crossbar.
