Danske Bank Premiership leaders Ballymena United have completed the signing of Dungannon Swifts captain Ryan Harpur.

The Sky Blues had announced earlier this week that Harpur had agreed to join the club on a pre-contract agreement at the end of the season upon the expiry of his current Swifts deal. However, an agreement between the clubs will see the 30-year-old midfielder move to the Showgrounds once the transfer window opens.

Harpur told the official Ballymena United website, "The main reason for coming here is David Jeffrey. I've always admired him from afar and to have the chance to work with him, I couldn't turn down that opportunity."

Formerly an apprentice with Everton, Harpur returned home to sign for Glenavon in October 2008 before a move to Dungannon Swifts three years later. He was appointed captain of the Stangmore Park club at the age of 24 and lead his club to an historic victory in last season’s BetMcLean League Cup final against his new employers, Ballymena United.
