Cathair Friel and Andrew McGrory celebrate Ballymena United third goal (c) Presseye

Ballymena United moved up to third in the Danske Bank Premiership with a stunning three goal victory over Crusaders at the Ballymena Showgrounds.

The Sky Blues startled their opponents with the opening goal after 11 minutes, as Leroy Millar’s through pass allowed Adam Leckey to outpace Howard Beverland and slip the ball under the outrushing Sean O’Neill.

Much of the first half seen David Jeffrey in the ascendency with the slender lead, as Crusaders failed to really test the home defence much to the frustration of Stephen Baxter.

William Faulkner scored United’s second on 74 minutes, as he had time to control Cathair Friel’s cross and exquisitely loop a half volley over the head of the Crusaders goalkeeper.

Friel once again was the provider two minutes later as United scored a third to secure all three points. From a similar crossing position Friel found Andrew McCrory, who looped a header out of O’Neill’s reach to secure all three points for the Bradimen.
