Ards stormed to a Matthew Shevlin inspired defeat of a Dungannon Swifts side possibly still suffering from an Irish Cup hangover.

Colin Nixon's side moved in front after 14 minutes through Michael Ruddy after he fired a spot-kick straight down the middle high into the net. Swifts 'keeper Andy Coleman conceded the penalty after he had brought down Matthew Shevlin.

Then, on 22 minutes, Shevlin got on the scoresheet with a close range tap-in after Coleman failed to clear Guillaume Keke's initial effort.

Dungannon pulled a goal back after half-an-hour courtesy of a Chris Hegarty header from Jarlath O'Rourke's cross.

However, Shevlin restored Ards' two-goal cushion just before the hour with a solo finish which saw him cut through the defence before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Then, five minutes after that, Shevlin sent the ball over from the right for Keke to turn and fire past Coleman to extend Ards' lead and complete the scoring.
