SECOND HALF SWIFTS COME THROUGH AT STANGMORE

League Cup winners Dungannon Swifts needed two second-half goals to overcome Ballinamallard United at Stangmore Park.

The Mallards might have snatched the lead after just four minutes when Sean Noble beat the offside trap only to see his shot on goal come back off the post into the arms of Stuart Addis.

Noble struck the woodwork again on nine minutes, this time with a 30-yard free-kick, while Richard Clarke's follow-up was headed clear.

For the Swifts, Daniel Hughes teed up Kris Lowe but this was saved by Richard Brush while Douglas Wilson saw a speculative effort from distance later in the half sail over.

Hughes did have the ball in the net before the break after Jarlath O'Rourke had done well to carve out the opening but this was ruled out offside.

Paul McElroy finally broke the deadlock on 71 minutes with a great strike into the bottom left-hand corner.

Then, ten minutes after that, Chris Hegarty tapped the ball over the line from point blank range after Ryan Mayse's initial effort was deflected clear.
