The first 2019  installment of BBC Sport NI’s Friday Night Football returns tonight live from Seaview as Crusaders take on Glenavon in the Danske Bank Premiership.

It’s third against fourth in the Danske Bank Premiership with both sides keen to ensure European qualification and keep the pressure on the top two in the division, who also meet tomorrow.

Jordan Forsythe is suspended for Stephen Baxter’s side, who bounced back from defeats to Linfield and Dungannon Swifts this month with victory over Coleraine at Seaview last Friday night with David Cushley bagging a double.

It’s been back to back live television games for the Lurgan Blues, who came behind on Monday night at the Oval to record a 2-1 victory over Glentoran. Player-manager Gary Hamilton rolled back the years after coming on as a second half substitute to level the scores – before Conor McCloskey popped up with an important late winner.

Glenavon have been out of form in recent weeks and the morale boosting win at Glentoran can potentially provide the platform to a successful final run in for the league campaign. Monday’s win was only the second three points picked up in the league this calendar year dating back to the last live BBC Sport broadcast over Coleraine in December.

Meetings this season

The two meetings between the sides have ended in a win apiece for each club. Glenavon drew first blood in the September meeting between the teams in September, coming from behind to win 3-2 at Mourneview Park. In the return at Seaview in November, the Crues were in ruthless form, scoring three times without reply against Glenavon, with Jordan Owens bagging two for himself.

Match Officials Tony Clarke takes charge of this Danske Bank Premiership encounter with George Argyropoulos and Mark O’Brien his assistant referees. The fourth official is Shane Andrews.

Coverage starts on BBC Two NI from 7.30pm, and is also accessible through the BBC Sport website, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport app.
