Portadown managed to escape the pull of relegation for at least another week with this defeat of Carrick Rangers at Shamrock Park.

The first moment of note came after nine minutes when Matt Hazley saw his long range shot well tipped over by Brian Neeson while, from the corner that followed, Hazley's effort was deflected to safety.

Carrick might have moved in front after 25 minutes when T.J. Murray was allowed time and space from distance but his attempt clipped the crossbar.

The visitors grabbed the advantage ten minutes into the second half when Martin Murray converted from the spot following a Ross Larkin foul on substitute Tommy Elder.

The Ports levelled with nine minutes remaining thanks to a successfully converted Niall Henderson penalty while, just a couple of minutes after that, Luke Wilson fired them in front from close range after connecting with a Stephen Hughes cross.

Carrick came within a whisker of levelling right at the end when Declan O'Brien turned an effort against the post.
