Gerry Flynn

IN A statement on their official website Newry City have announced the departure of Gerry Flynn from the club.

The statement reads: "Newry City Football Club has dismissed Gerry Flynn, Newry City first Team Manager effective from 3rd February 2011.

"The decision was taken by the Senior Management Committee in light of recent results. It was felt that Newry City’s poor league position left the Committee with no option but to make radical changes.

"The committee would thank Gerry and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well in any future role.

"While the Club seeks to appoint a new full time manager, in the interim period Robbie Casey will take over as Caretaker Manager supported by Ollie Ralph, Raymond Byrne and Mickey Keenan.

"They will take charge of their first game against Crusaders on Saturday at The Showgrounds and the club and management wish them every success going forward."

This was Flynn's second spell in the City hotseat. He first assumed the reigns in January 2007 before resigning in two-and-a-half years later. However, he did return six months after that following the departure of John McDonnell.
