Elliott Morris was an unlikely name on scoresheet as Glentoran defeated Institute at the Brandywell.
Morris, with 723 appearances for the club under his belt, opened the scoring in sensational fashion after 11 minutes. After a foul on Conor Pepper inside the Glentoran half Morris stepped forward to take the free-kick, punting the ball forward and into the net despite his opposite number Martin Gallagher getting his fingertips to the ball as it flew over his head.
It was a headline grabbing goal in an otherwise forgettable first half which produced little action at either end.
The game did brighten up somewhat after the break, with Gallagher producing a good stop to turn away a Darren Murray effort before, on the hour, Joe McCready tested Morris with a curling effort which went inches wide.
'Stute created further chances through Michael McCrudden and Colm McLaughlin but, on 87 minutes, Glentoran substitute Paul O'Neill made sure the points would be travelling back to Belfast when he made the most of a mistake by Gallagher to place the ball into an open goal.
