Ards moved back off the bottom of the table with victory over Institute at the Brandywell.

The wins puts Warren Feeney's side level on points with Newry City but with a marginally better goal difference going into the final two games of the season.

Ards had the ball in the net early on in proceedings but Kyle Cherry's finish was ruled out offside.

At the other end soon after Thomas McBride crafted Institute's first chance but, albeit a decent effort, his shot was straight at keeper Sam Johnston.

But there proved to be little other chances in a quiet first half apart from a brief flurry close to the break when Joe McCready saw a header comfortably saved before Michael McLellan fired into the side netting.

However, McLellan went one better ten minutes into the second with what proved to be the winner, a superbly struck free-kick from 35-yards which gave Martin Gallagher no chance.

With their noses in front, Ards looked to double their advantage with Eamon McAllister being denied when Gallagher rushed off his line to block the ball with around a quarter-of-an-hour left.

And a couple of minutes after that Damien McNulty also came close with a header off the crossbar while the follow up was cleared off the line.
