MALLARDS EARN POINT TO PULL AWAY AT THE BOTTOM

Ballinamallard United picked up a valuable point from Crusaders' visit to Ferney Park on a weekend which saw defeats for the two sides below them in the table.

The Mallards moved in front after eight minutes following a Johnny Lafferty run down the left which took him past three defenders before crossing for John Currie to volley home at the back post.

Despite falling behind, Crusaders enjoyed plenty of possession as the first half progressed but Paul Heatley and Gavin Whyte could only fire straight at Stefan McCusker while Colin Coates turned a ball into the side netting.

Then, after the break, Billy Joe Burns fired wide from 10 yards, Jordan Owens sent the ball over and Timmy Adamson threatened with a low shot.

But Crusaders eventually levelled just before the hour mark when Owens headed down for Paul Heatley to tuck the ball home from close range.

After that the Mallards looked the more likely to score again with Liam Martin seeing an effort denied by Sean O'Neill's outstretched leg before Raymond Foy sent a header wide.

Foy might have snatched the win for Ballinamallard right at the end only to hesitate when clean through with the goal at his mercy.
