LAVERY FEATURES IN GERMAN DEFEAT FOR NI

Linfield forward Shayne Lavery came off the bench but couldn’t prevent Northern Ireland falling to defeat to Germany in their Euro 2020 qualifier.

Michael O’Neill side performed valiantly against the 2014 World Cup winners, but two second half goes killed off any hopes of a memorable scalp for Northern Ireland.

Lavery’s introduction as a second half substitute with seven minutes remaining in place of Conor Washington was the striker’s second cap in a week and his third in total for his country, having become the first player from the NI Football League to win full international honours since Roy Carroll in 2017.

Former Crusaders midfielder Stuart Dallas (now with Leeds United) started alongside Niall McGinn (ex-Dungannon Swifts). Another former Crues alumni Gavin Whyte (now with Cardiff City) came off the bench as well, whilst Liam Boyce (ex-Cliftonville) and Liam Donnelly (ex-Dungannon Swifts).
