A late goal from Mark Griffin secured a point for Glenavon as they recovered from a Glentoran fightback at Mourneview Park.

Glenavon needed just two minutes to break the deadlock. Andrew Mitchell did well to hold up a Rhys Marshall ball forward before laying it off for Mark Sykes to embark on a run at the defence culiminating with a low finish past Elliott Morris from just outside the area.

On the half-hour mark Sammy Clingan almost added a second for Glenavon with a stunning free-kick from distance which was met by an equally impressive save by Morris in tipping the ball over.

And Morris denied Clingan again after that with a one-handed save after the ball was fired goalbound from Bobby Burns' corner.

Josh Daniels then came close with a shot across the face of goal after he had been picked out down the right by Jamie Singleton.

After the break the visitors might have levelled after Ross Redman whipped in a strong free-kick from distance which Johnny Tuffey did well to tip away to safety.

But Redman was instrumental in Glentoran's equaliser with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining. His corner from the right was nodded on by Marcus Kane for Curtis Allen to head over the line from close range.

Then, just two minutes after that, John McGuigan edged the visitors in front. Allen turned provider, cutting the ball back from the touchline for McGuigan to have the time to turn and slot home from around ten yards out.

However, the points were ultimately shared when, right at the end, substitute Griffin touched home Glenavon's second of the game at the near post after Eric Foley had delivered a cross from deep on the right.
