INTERVIEW: FRAZER'S FIGHT FOR ARDS

It’s been a difficult start to the season for Ards in the Danske Bank Premiership but try telling that to 21-year-old winger Jonny Frazer who is loving just being able to play football regularly again.

Having graduated through the ranks of Linfield having had loan spells at both Warrenpoint Town and Ballymena United, 21-year-old Frazer joined Ards during the summer; “I’m enjoying my football so much and loving just playing again. I wanted to get settled again after being in and out of teams and hadn’t played for long spells last year. Nicky [Colin Nixon] has put a lot of belief in me and I just want to repay that faith by helping Ards back up the table!”

It has been a difficult start for the County Down club as they have been hovering above the relegation places for much of the season.

“We had a difficult start, worse that we had thought we would have. Last Tuesday gave us a big boost as a few young lads came in and were excellent against Glenavon [in the BetMcLean League Cup] and we took that into the Friday game against Warrenpoint.

“The weather was awful and it was a real battle but we got stuck in and got the result and a late winner. We’re buzzing now and want to kick on to move up the table were we should be.”

This weekend Jonny faces a first return to Windsor Park since leaving the South Belfast Blues, with fate bizarrely handing Ards a double header against David Healy’s side in firstly the Danske Bank Premiership on Saturday afternoon and the County Antrim Shield on Monday evening.

“Linfield and ourselves haven’t had the start we both wanted. I know the Linfield boys will be disappointed and will maybe look at a game against Ards to get back on track but we see it as two games we can get something from.”

“Someone mentioned at training about the last time an Ards team took something away from Windsor, so we’ve got two chances in the space of three days. These are the kind of games we all want to be playing, at Windsor Park against the best teams in the league and we’re definitely looking forward to it!.

Next up: Ards travel to Linfield this Saturday in the Danske Bank Premiership, kick-off at Windsor Park is 3pm.
