HOLDEN STRIKE ENOUGH FOR CHAMPIONS CRUES

A Ross Holden goal early in the second half saw champions Crusaders round off the season with victory over Glentoran at The Oval.

Both sides traded chances during the opening exchanges with Declan Caddell and Diarmuid O'Carroll threatening for the Crues while Chris Lavery and Kym Nelson came close at the other end.

As the first half progressed Glentoran looked the more likely to find a way through, almost managing it when Calum Birney nodded a Chris Lavery corner against the crossbar.

Crusaders' best chance of the scoreless opening 45 minutes when O'Carroll fired low towards the bottom corner only for Elliott Morris to produce a superb stop.

What proved to be the winner arrived six minutes after the break when Colin Coates picked out Holden from distance to cut inside and fire beyond Morris into the net.

The Crues might have doubled their lead later in the half when Michael Carvill lifted the ball over Johnny Addis but, getting on the end of it, Holden elected to shoot rater than lay the ball off for the better placed Matthew Snoddy.
