A MICHAEL Hegarty goal helped Coleraine to victory over Linfield, blowing the title race wide open in the process.

The 27-year-old struck on 25 minutes when he beat the home offside trap to confidently finish past Alan Blayney.

Linfield, once with a seemingly unassailable lead, have now been caught on points by Stephen Baxter's Crusaders after their defeat of Lisburn Distillery at Ballyskeagh.

Jordan Owens grabbed the only goal of the game midway through the first half with a header into the bottom right hand corner.

Glentoran are five points behind the leading duo in third place.

They emerged victorious from a seven-goal thriller away to Newry City, a game that produced a Matty Burrows hat-trick and two red cards.

Portadown moved back into the top six courtesy of a convincing 3-1 win over Cliftonville at Solitude while Donegal Celtic moved off the foot of the table after a 3-3 draw with Glenavon, a game that saw both sides score in stoppage time.
