GORMLEY DOUBLES UP AFTER REDS LEAVE IT LATE

Joe Gormley bagged a double as Cliftonville came from behind to defeat Ards with three late goals at Solitude.

The visitors led at the break in an otherwise quiet first half when, on 34 minutes, Michael McLellan sent a somewhat speculative but stunning effort beyond the reach of keeper Richard Brush after Conor McMenamin appeared to misjudge the bounce of the ball after it had been punted forward.

That was how it stayed until 11 minutes from time despite no shortage of home pressure. Gormley levelled for the Reds from inside the area after Conor McDonald knocked the ball into his path from the touchline.

Then, on 87 minutes, McMenamin added a second after another McDonald lay off, this time the ball going into the net via a deflection.

And the scoring was completed two minutes into stoppage time after Gormley showed his composure to tuck the ball past Sam Johnston after being played through by Caoimhin McConnell.
