Two first half goals proved enough for the win that Cliftonville to move above opponents Coleraine in the Danske Bank Premiership.
Cliftonville made a blistering start to this game, as Levi Ives stepped up to curl an unstoppable free-kick past Johns in the Coleraine goal on 11 minutes, to open proceedings.
The Reds continued to dominate the early stages and moments after Joe Gormley had rattled the crossbar, Barry Gray’s side doubled their scoring with 19 minutes gone as Rory Donnelly ghosted in unmarked to head home a Chris Curran corner.
Coleraine managed to pull a goal back just before the interval, as Jamie McGoingle’s strong run down the right channel resulted in his ball across the face of goal being knocked home easily by Darren McCauley.
The visitors defended resolutely through the second half, as Garry Breen was on hand to clear the ball off the line from Aaron Burns’ header whilst Richard Brush also made a smart save from Eoin Bradley’s low drive.
Cliftonville held out for the important victory which lifts the club to fourth place in the Danske Bank Premiership table, whilst Coleraine drop into the bottom half on goal difference.
