Scott Davidson grabbed the late winner for Ards as Colin Nixon's side collected their first points of the campaign with victory over Carrick Rangers at the Belfast Loughshore Hotel Arena.

Having lost in their previous four outings this season Ards started brightly with Jonny Frazer and Guillaume Keke both just missing the target during the opening exchanges.

Carrick, for their part, were thwarted when Ards 'keeper Aaron Hogg did well to deny Eamon McAllister from distance but it was Nixon's charges that almost found a way through moments from the break when Frazer fired just wide after getting beyond the home defence.

And there was a similar tale of woe early in the second half when Reece Glendinning crossed for Kyle Cherry but his effort went just past the upright while Mark Surgenor went close with a 25-yard drive for Carrick.

Both sides were reduced to ten men within minutes of each other just after the hour mark.

Cherry was first to go following an incident with Aaron Smyth before, five minutes after that, Surgenor was dismissed after collecting a second caution.

Ards' winning goal came with a couple of minutes remaining. David McAllister thought he had broken the deadlock with a goalbound effort which 'keeper Harry Doherty did well to touch onto the woodwork but substitute Davidson was on hand to nod the ball over the line.
