CURRY, MORROW AND DOHERTY ON TARGET FOR 'STUTE

Institute swept to a comprehensive three-goal Friday night defeat of bottom of the table Ards at the Bangor Fuels Arena.

The first half was a largely uneventful affair during the opening exchanges with Ards enjoying the best of what few opportunities were created with Kym Nelson seeing a header easily saved by Martin Gallagher while Michael McLellan sent a later effort the wrong side of the right post.

However, it was visitors 'Stute who went in at the break on top when Dean Curry opened the scoring just after the half-hour with a low drilled shot past Sam Johnston after a free-kick from the left wasn't cleared.

Ronan Doherty came close to doubling Institute's advantage early in the second half with a break from midfield only for his goalbound effort from an acute angle to be cleared.

At the other end Kyle Cherry will feel he should have levelled for Ards only to head unmarked from inside the box straight at Gallagher.

But 'Stute doubled their lead with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining through substitute Jake Morrow with an outstanding 25-yard drive beyond Johnston.

Doherty completed a successful outing for Institute with four minutes left with their third goal to secure the points with a curling left-foot effort into the far corner.
