Crusaders picked up their first Premiership win in three outings with this defeat of Institute at the Brandywell.
Both keepers were called into action during the opening exchanges with Martin Gallagher getting down low to deny a powerful Rory Patterson effort while Sean O'Neill came darting off his line to thwart Michael McCrudden.
'Stute had the ball in the net just before the half-hour mark but McCrudden's finish was adjudged to be offside from Jake Morrow's pass.
But, moments later at the other end, Patterson broke the deadlock with an angled drive past Gallagher afer connecting with Ross Clarke's cross from the right.
However, Jamie McIntyre levelled for Institute eight minutes later with a superb low drive in off the right post from outside the area after Aaron Harkin had laid the ball off.
Crusaders regained the advantage very early in the second half through substitute Jordan Owens' close range finish after Paul Heatley's initial effort came back off the crossbar.
Then, two goals in quick succession with around a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, decided the outcome.
Colin Coates scrambled home number three from point blank range after a Clarke ball wasn't dealt with before Jordan Forsythe, on the halfway line, spotted Gallagher off his line and duly lobbed the ball over the home keeper.
