Crusaders moved back into third spot following this defeat of Linfield at Windsor Park.
The Crues stung Linfield with two goals just after the half-hour mark.
On 33 minutes Colin Coates, celebrating his 400th appearance for the club, opened the scoring with a low free-kick into the corner from some 25 yards.
Then, three minutes after that, Paul Heatley made it 2-0 after pouncing on a loose ball inside the area to beat Johnny Tuffey.
But Linfield pulled a goal back ten minutes into the second half when Andrew Waterworth connected with a Michael Carvill cross to head past Sean O'Neill in off an upright.
Carvill then had a chance just after the hour only to fire straight at O'Neill before switched to the other end when Diarmuid O'Carroll was thwarted by a point blank stop.
Chasing the equaliser, Carvill threatened again with 20 minutes remaining with a curling free-kick but Jordan Owens almost put the outcome beyond doubt soon after when his header was pushed around an upright by Tuffey.
The Blues really only had one more effort of note as the game entered the final stages when Stephen Lowry nodded the ball wide from Jimmy Callacher's right-wing cross.
