Michael Halliday celebrates his late winner at Seaview (Picture: PressEye.com)

CRUES GO SECOND BUT BLUES MARCH ON

A LATE Michael Halliday penalty helped Crusaders recover from an early setback to defeat Newry City and move into second spot in the Carling Premiership.

The Crues fell behind to an eighth minute Paul Keenan goal at Seaview but got back on level terms less than a quarter-of-an-hour later through Jonathan Magee.

And that was how it stayed until the last few moments of the game when Halliday stepped up to knock home the winner.

Stephen Baxter's side are still a huge 12 points adrift of leaders Linfield who maintained their charge towards yet another title with a narrow defeat of Glenavon at Windsor Park courtesy of a Michael Gault strike early in the second half.

Portadown can also point to a solitary second half goal in their victory over Lisburn Distillery at Shamrock Park.

Recent signing Matt Tipton grabbed the winner on the hour to grant Ronnie McFall's men a bit of breathing space in the tussle for positions in the bottom half of the table.
