Two Sammy Clingan penalties helped Glenavon claim all three points from this visit to The Oval.

The game got off to a storming start with two goals inside the opening ten minutes.

Glentoran grabbed the lead on six minutes through Robbie McDaid after he glanced the ball across 'keeper Johnny Tuffey into the far corner after Curtis Allen had supplied the crucial cross.

Then, sixty seconds later, Andrew Mitchell levelled after Bobby Burns crossed for Mark Griffin to nod the ball into his path.

Glentoran pressed to regain the advantage, causing concern in the visiting defence before a McDaid effort on goal was blocked and eventually cleared.

At the other end Elliott Morris was called into action to tip a long range Clingan drive around an upright before scrambling to save an effort from Burns.

After the break Tiarnan McNicholl saw his goalbound header from point blank range thwarted by Tuffey before the Glenavon 'keeper then denied Marcus Kane and then Johnny Addis in quick succession.

But Glenavon edged in front with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Clingan knocked home his first spot-kick of the net, sending Morris the wrong way following a Tre Sterling foul on Mark Sykes.

And, with seven minutes to go, the former Northern Ireland international completed the scoring with his second penalty, this time awarded after Ross Redman had handled in the area.
