Carrick Rangers hit two goals in each half to pick up a crucial away victory over Ards.

Eamon McAllister opened the scoring on 17 minutes from close range after Daniel Kelly's initial effort was saved.

Then, just after the half-hour mark, Sean Noble made it 2-0 with a drive through a crowded penalty area after McAllister's corner was only partially cleared.

New signing Declan O'Brien added a third on 64 minutes when his back post header from Noble's right-sided cross just about crept over the line although Adam Salley made sure by hammering the ball into the net.

Substitute Martin Murray completed the scoring eight minutes after that, sending Aaron Hogg the wrong way from the spot after O'Brien had been upended by Johnny Taylor.
