BANNSIDERS LAND DOHERTY IN DERRY SWAP DEAL

Coleraine have made their second signing of the January Transfer Window with midfielder Ben Doherty joining from Derry City with Ciaron Harkin moving in the opposite direction.

Northern Ireland Under-21 international Ben Doherty spent the first half of the Danske Bank Premiership season on loan with Gary Hamilton’s Glenavon, making 18 league appearances and scoring two goals for the title challenging Lurgan Blues.

The Derry native has joined the Bannsiders on a two and a half year contract, joining winger Jamie Glackin (from Crusaders) at the Ballycastle Road for the second half of the season.

Coleraine manager Rodney McAree told the club’s official website; “We are delighted to secure the services of a quality footballer who is adaptable at playing across different positions,” he said.

“Ben has a great eye for goal, he has a terrific delivery at set pieces and a sweet left foot.”

Heading in the opposite direction is central midfielder Ciaron Harkin – who joins his native Derry City on a two year deal as one of new boss Declan Devine’s first signings ahead of the new League of Ireland season.

Harkin has made 22 Premiership appearances for Coleraine this season and was a key component of the side that won the Irish Cup and finished runners-up in the Danske Bank Premiership last season.

Both Doherty and Glackin will not be eligible for Coleraine’s next match on New Years’ Day as they host Cliftonville at the Showgrounds (kick-off: 3pm).
