Coleraine kept up their rich vein of form with this ultimately comfortable victory over Ards at The Showgrounds.

The Bannsiders raced into a two-goal lead early on in the game.

On nine minutes Ian Parkhill delivered a superb effort into the top corner after Darren McCauley beat two players to create the opening.

Then, a couple of minutes after that, Jamie McGonigle did equally as well when he turned to smash the ball past Aaron Hogg from 20 yards.

However, Ards pulled one back on 32 minutes. Gareth McConaghie conceded a spot-kick for a challenge on Matthew Shevlin with Michael Ruddy stepping up to beat Chris Johns with a left-foot finish.

The Bannsiders looked to have consolidated their advantage as the game moved into the second half with substitute Jordan Allan testing Hogg, forcing him into a diving save to keep the ball out.

For Ards Guillaume Keke saw an effort blocked as they chased the equaliser while McCauley had a left foot shot turned away at the other end.

But Coleraine secured the points with six minutes to go when substitute James McLaughlin added their three from close range after McCauley got past defender Greg Hall to cut the ball back from the byline.
