Ards collected a huge three points with victory over fellow strugglers Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.
Eamon McAllister edged Colin Nixon's side into the lead after ten minutes with a shot from the right which Swifts keeper Alex Moore fumbled into the bottom corner of his own net.
Paul McElroy might have levelled soon after in similar circumstances when Ards keeper Sam Johnston almost allowed a corner to slip past him only to see it cleared off the line.
And Dungannon came close again when Daniel Hughes got past a couple of players doing the wing before firing towards goal only to see the ball drift just the wrong side of the post.
But Ards doubled their lead on 73 minutes through Mark Kelly with a header from Kym Nelson's cross which he directed past Moore.
Then, moments from the end, McAllister doubled his tally by taking the ball round Moore and into the net to complete the scoring.
