CITY EDGE OUT COMRADES
Newry City defeated Ballyclare Comrades by the odd goal in three at The Showgrounds.
It took Newry just a couple of minutes to move in front after a free-kick from the edge of the area was only cleared as far as Fra McCaffrey who wasted no time in returning the ball into the bottom corner.
And the home side had the ball in the net again in the closing moments of the first half but Ryan McNickle's finish was ultimately ruled out offside.
However McNickle wasn't to be denied on 69 minutes when he did find the net - and it did count - with a strong strike from close range after running onto a ball over the top.
The visitors pulled one back with eight minutes to go, however, after Darius Roohi pulled the ball back for Marcus Murphy to head home.
